What to Do When Your SSS Maternity Benefit Claim is Denied

By KD

You can see on your online SSS account if your SSS Maternity Benefit Claim is Denied.

You will see the word "Denied"

Oftentimes, you can also see the reason for denial.

So what will you do when your claim is Denied?

1.  Wait for your claim documents to be returned to you through the postal mail.
Your documents will be returned to the address you wrote in your MAT2 form.

Can you go to SSS to get your denied documents?
Usually no, because they do not know where your documents are at a certain point in time.
No one is recording where every document is located at a certain point in time.

Can you file another set of claim documents?
No, because you do not know what SSS wrote in your denied documents.
Besides, SSS needs to see their remarks on the denied documents.

Can you go to SSS and ask for explanation for the denial?
Yes, go to where you filed your claim.

2.  After seeing the reason for your Denial, or the instructions for re-filing,
      comply with them.

3.  Re-submit your claim together with the correct documents.

How long are you going to wait for the documents to be returned?
It may take 3 weeks to 1 month or more from date of denial, based on comments from users.

Can I go to SSS and change the address written on my MAT2? I no longer live in the
address I wrote in my MAT2 form.
SSS cannot pinpoint the exact location of your documents at any point in time, so think of a way to access your previous address.
One option is to talk to the local post office or postman that serves your previous address.

  4. QUESTION from Precious Anne Herrera Feb 24, 2015
HI,thank you po your response. I've checked my member info online and everything is correct. I'm worried because I just got married but i already filed e4 to change my last name before i pass my MAT2. Is it ok if my surnames in my MAT1 and MAT2 are different? do you think that's the reason why the status up to now is *for verf *?
    ANSWER:
Hi Precious Anne, if you filed your MAT2 before your change from maiden surname to married surname was effected and posted in your records, then that could be the reason why your claim is still for verification. Check from time to time. Or you can go to where your filed and ask.

  5. QUESTION from renzee lopena Mar 6, 2015
hi po, May I ask where my denied mat-2 could be. dec9,2014 I gave birth. I filed jan8,2015 mat-2. Followed up feb17,2015. then they told me my docs were not yet returned. march6,2015 (today) I followed up again and I was told my docs were not there yet. What should i do? tia :) Can I follow up at main sss?
    ANSWER:
Hi renzee, do you mean your branch told you your claim was denied? Did your branch tell you that your docs will be returned to them and that you will get your denied docs from them? What I know is that if your claim is denied, you will wait for your denied documents to get returned to you by registered mail at your address.
Yes, you can follow up at Main SSS, but I don't think they know where your documents are at any certain point of time, as there are huge piles of papers there.

  7. Hi buttercup25, do you mean your employer did not advance your benefit to you?
By this time, the benefit should already be in your employer's account, as SSS said the SMBP program will make benefit payments faster. But because the program is still new, maybe there are glitches. Ask your HR or accounting if your benefit will be paid through your payroll atm.

Feb 25, 2015 when I found out na buntis ako. I decided to have a check up on first saturday of march (march 7), since may trabaho every weekdays at di ako makapag leave. On March 4 (wednesday), dinugo ako. Sobrang lakas. Kaya I decided na magpa check up sa OB. That was my first check up when I found out na buntis ako. After consultation with OB,pinag PT nya ako sa clinic, result was positive. Result ng ultrasound, wala na daw baby. Btw,it's my 4th week that day.

    Question
Nung nagpasa ako ng MAT-2 , ang supporting documents ko lang ay medical certificate, sss obsterical history form, ultrasound report AFTER miscarriage and Laboratory result (Beta-HCG - as per my OB, it is also a proof na buntis ako. And she suggested na iattach ko daw un, since wla akong ultrasound report Before miscarriage)

Based on given documents. Iaaccept ba nila Sss ung claim ko? Kahit di ako nakapag pa notify at wla akong ultrasound report before miscarriage?

If SSS told me I lacked qualifying contributions, can I no longer claim for maternity benefit? Thanks po

That's true. SSS requires that you should have at least 3 posted contributions within the 12-month period before your semester of delivery. See this post on Are you eligible for SSS maternity benefit?

  21. Hi Mam, i would like to ask if possible po ba na madenied yung application ko dahil po when I gave birth i was unemployed. but when i check po sa another post nyo, the one you posted that helped me know if im eligible or not, i was qualified ko claim my maternity benefit.

i was separated from work BEFORE i gave birth last NOVEMBER 30, 2011 and i gave birth on July 16, 2012, which means i have 3 consecutive contributions within the 12 months before my semester of delivery.

and one thing pa po, baka po magkaron ng confusion dahil, i gave birth na unemployed and now on my online account i am employed but with different company.

COMPANY BEFORE I GAVE BIRTH: MONDE NISSIN (NOVEMBER 30, 2011 ENDO)
    PRESENT COMPANY: SUNPOWER PHILIPPINES

hope you can help me on this, it will be very much appreciated.

    ANSWER:
Try filing, or if you have filed, hope for the best. Yes, based on the dates you mentioned, you're eligible for the benefit. About your member status, there might initially be a conflict there, but if the SSS evaluator sees that it's a delayed filing, then your claim should be approved.

  23. Hi,
Need advise, I filled my Mat2, checked the Online status it says 5TH DELIVERY NOT COMPENSABLE * WRONG KEY-ENCODING", this is just my 3rd baby, how come it says 5th, and besides i had a miscarriage but did not file any claim on that.

How come it says its my 5th baby? but in the file of claim it was specified as 4th delivery.

    Thank you,
    Laarnie

    ReplyDelete
  24. About 5th delivery: Sorry miscarriage is included in the counting. And even if you did not claim your benefit for one or some or all those 4 deliveries or miscarriages, SSS considers all in the counting, with SSS claim or without. They can see the number of deliveries in the birth certificate and the number of miscarriages in your current or previous MAT1 or MAT2 filings. They can also access medical records if they decide to do so.
If this is your 3rd baby and you had only one miscarriage, then this current claim should be approved. There might have been discrepancies in the documents, so wait for your documents to be returned to you via postal mail, then read the comments/instructions, then correct what needs to be corrected, and re-file your claim.

Thanks!

    1. Hi scarsenstars: Sorry hindi, dapat you wait for your denied documents. Kasi merong instructions or remarks doon.
When re-filing as Separated, use the form Maternity Benefit Application for SE VM SEP. And yes, include your separation docs, L501 and cert of non-advancement of benefit

    3. Hi scarsenstars: More than a year na pala? Dapat na-deliver na sa home address mo. Visit the branch where you filed your claim and ask about your claim. Tell them nakita mo sa online na denied pero up to now hindi naman nababalik yong papers mo. Ask mo na rin kung puedeng mag-re-file na hindi mo na aantaying yong denied papers, kasi more than a year na. Bring your ID.

    1. Hi chris: The MAT1 that you submitted through your former employer is the one you should use because it was the one you submitted prior to your delivery.
Since employed ka pa rin, but with a new company, you should file through your new employer because it is with them that you will take a leave for 60 days (or 78 days if CS). Your new employer will accomplish the Employer portion in your claim form.

      Delete
    2. no need to file Mat 1 na po sa new employer? bale mat 2 na lang po i file ko sa kanila. kapag chinecheck ko online yung eligibility under sa E.R nila eto po lumalabas

Maternity Claim application will be rejected due to the following reason(s):
      * Employer not yet enrolled/no exemption request in SMB Payment thru the Bank Program.
Please inform your employer to submit properly filled out Enrollment form to designated SSS-Sickness/Maternity Accredited Bank.

    5. Hi chris: Iba-iba rin kasi ang flow ng every check, so mahirap magbigay ng time frame. We hope na lang na ma-deposit nila in your employer's account in 1 to 2 weeks. Kung i-send naman nila via postal mail, maybe in 3 to 4 weeks.
About servicing branch. sorry hindi ko ma-gets. Anyway, I hope it does not affect as you already have a check no.

  31. Mag pass po ulit ako ng Mat 1 with them as my employer? Diba the new employer should be the one filing my mat1 and mat2 since employed ako sa kanila?

    1. Hi Momay: Yong MAT1, okay lang naman na ikaw, kung at that time ay Separated ka. Or sige, kung umayaw sila na ipasa ang MAT1 mo kahit employed ka na sa kanila that time, okay lang na ikaw. But it's different with the MAT2 or the maternity reimbursement form, now that you're employed. They should be the one processing it, kasi they will need to sign the form. Merong employer portion ang form. At saka sa kanila ka magle-leave. Sa employer account din ise-send ang benefit, which will be forwarded to you through your payroll account.

  32. Good day! Please help. Filed my MAT2 last October 19. Tumawag ako sa hotline ng sss (917-7777) ngayon (November 24) to follow up my claims and unfortunately my claims was denied. (Separation docs, L501 and cert of non-advancement of benefits) separated from employer kasi ako. base sa mga nabasa ko I should wait for my documents bago ako makapag refile. Gano ba katagal bago dumating yung denied documents? And one thing, employed na ko with different company. Thank you po
